not some organized media conspiracy to defame religious believers and delegitimize pro-lifers. It’s just a basic cultural gap between the national press and a large section of the public, one that exists across a lot of fronts but happens to be most pronounced on culture-war issues. There are journalists — my colleagues, my friends — who do a remarkable job of bridging this gap, bringing empathy and rigor to bear covering opinions and perspectives their own backgrounds might otherwise incline them to dismiss. But we need many more of them.
